High humidity makes mold in bathrooms a real nightmare. Fungal spores form an aesthetically unpleasant black tarnish, which is difficult to get rid of. However, it is not impossible. Check out how to remove mold, or even all the silicone.

Mold in the bathroom – many people have this problem

The high humidity and high temperature in bathrooms are ideal circumstances for the growth of fungi and bacteria. Especially in small rooms, where there is a problem with ventilation, such a situation is not difficult.

Unsightly black tarnish most often appears on grout, in the corners of the shower tray, on silicone and in various nooks and crannies. You can, of course, proceed to cleaning, but this is a short-term solution. The most sensible way is to remove all silicone with mold. You have two options. Find out how to proceed in each case.

Removing mold from silicone – how to do it?

There are at least several ways to remove mold from silicone. One of them is a solution of vinegar and water in a ratio of 1:2. Spread such a solution over the areas where there is a black tarnish. You can also add a little baking soda. Scrub the whole thing with a toothbrush or sponge.

Another option is to combine two teaspoons of baking soda with ⅔ cup of ammonia. Stir the whole thing, pour it into an atomizer bottle and spray the areas where mold has appeared. Then leave the solution for at least an hour, finally scrub.

Another way may surprise you. You need… baking powder! All you need to do is sprinkle it on the silicone. Finally, scrub the areas with mold with a brush and rinse.

How to remove silicone with mold?

Okay, but what if removing mold is not enough for us and we just want to remove all the silicone to give a new one in its place? We give you a hint!

First of all, there are specialized preparations for removing sanitary silicone. They usually have a gel consistency and you can find them in virtually any major home improvement store. They are applied with a brush – usually attached to the preparation – which softens the remaining silicone. This makes it easy to remove later with a spatula.

Although the process of removing silicone is quite simple and there are quite a few ways to do it, it is recommended to just reach for specialized preparations.
