In most homes you will find portable fans, often colloquially called fans. The small devices with propellers are perfect for hot days. In the stores already in spring appear a lot of different models. Which will be the best for home use?

Types of fans

There are several types of fans:

•  desktop – they are small in size, can be placed on a desk or table. They are very handy and are easy to move from room to room. Their disadvantage, however, is that they are less efficient;
• classic – consisting of a round disc with a propeller and a leg, thanks to which you can adjust the height of the device. Such a fan can be bought for less than PLN 100, if it can be a plastic model. A slightly better quality, metal device is an expense of 200-300 zlotys. From the price usually also depends on the efficiency and power – the higher, the better the fan will cool;
• column fans – visually they look the best, as they are quite elegant. They do not have one large propeller but several smaller ones, which are located inside the case. They are usually more than half a meter high;
• bladeless – such a device, instead of a propeller, has a special rim from which the air is discharged. Such a device is not only visually nicer, but also quieter compared to other models.

What to pay attention to when buying a fan for the house?

When buying a fan, you should certainly pay attention to its power. Typically, devices of this type for home use have 40 to 70 watts. The higher the power, the better. Some devices have the ability to adjust the speed of operation. This is also a big plus, because we don’t always feel like a strong breath of air, sometimes a light blast is enough. Adjustment makes it easy for us to adjust the cooling power to our predisposition.

An important and often overlooked parameter is the diameter of the propeller. It is estimated that a fan that will be used at home should have at least 40 cm in propeller diameter.

Some devices are very loud, and it is worth checking this already in the store. If it is too loud, it can be problematic and interfere with daily chores. An intensity of less than 60dB is considered a good result.

Adjusting the angle of the head and turning the fan in different directions is also a nice option. This is especially useful when there is more than one person in the room.

If you’re struggling with dry air at home, it’s worth considering buying a fan with a humidifying function. The plus side of this device is that it also increases the pleasant cooling sensation.

Other extras that make the equipment even more convenient to use are an ionizer that refreshes the air, a remote control so you can change the settings without getting up from your chair, or a display and timer.

However, it is important to keep in mind that the more features, the usually higher the price of the equipment. Therefore, before we go to the store, it is worth thinking about what we will definitely need, and which functions we can dispense with.
