A small kitchen does not have to be cramped and uncomfortable at all. Just pay attention to a few details and even a tiny interior will be beautiful and functional. Here’s how to turn a tiny kitchen into a comfortable and convenient space
Does a small kitchen have to be a big challenge? Not necessarily! Discover a few proven methods that will work brilliantly in a small interior.
When choosing furniture for a small kitchen, you should first of all remember that they should not take up too much space – after all, we want to make the interior as spacious as possible, not cluttered. The most convenient in this case will be a kitchen draft. But how to set it up to be as comfortable as possible? If the room is very narrow, opt for kitchen cabinets in the draft on one side of the room. However, if it has a square or rectangular shape, then set the furniture in an L-shape. Also, remember to choose furniture made of high-quality materials that will withstand many years of intensive use, as well as resist harsh conditions, especially high humidity in the room
Also think about how much storage space you need, and consequently, how many cabinets and shelves you need, because interiors in which many items are outside, give the impression of clutter. In this way, everything will be neatly buried, the room will seem tidy, and cooking in such a place will be pure pleasure. To give the interior an interesting character, you can also opt for unusual furniture, such as bar stools and low hockers.
In small kitchens, the color scheme is extremely important, because it helps to optically enlarge the interior. Light shades such as white, gray, light browns will work best. However, if you prefer slightly livelier colors, then you can decide on single accents in strong colors. This will give the kitchen a bit of character without becoming overwhelming. When it comes to materials, MDF, stone or wood are great options. Remember to choose solid wood though – untreated wood with natural grain looks beautiful and effective in a kitchen, but cleaning it and picking up crumbs from the crevices can be a challenge.
Placement of home appliances is equally important to the comfort of your kitchen. To do this smartly, all you need to do is follow one simple rule – fridge, stove and sink should be arranged to form a triangle. This will make moving around the kitchen as comfortable and intuitive as possible. It’s best to start with the fridge and place it as close to the door as possible
In small interiors, lighting is also important, because it allows you to optically enlarge the space. Try to make the kitchen well lit and choose furniture and equipment that will additionally reflect the light. It’s also good to place several sources of light instead of one central one, also remembering about shaded areas. The color of the light is also very important – cooler light will reflect from the walls, ceiling and objects more intensely than the dim and warm one
